“Neufeld invites us to see the minutiae in the heavens and the magnificence in a leaf, to ponder the (in)significance of humankind. In the last 25 years I have lovingly explored natural beauty all around BC, particularly the Coastal areas. I am self taught, though I give credit to explorer and Order of Canada recipient John Clarke (Xwelkselken) who shared wisdom of both photography and wilderness when I first arrived in BC back in 1997. Immersing myself in wilderness has healed and transformed me in so many ways. My wish is to share this journey through my reflections in the form of photos and writing. I have displayed my work across Canada in art shows, markets, calendars and magazines. I produce cards, fine art photographs on canvas, and HD Aluminum prints up to 40X60 and larger, printing and framing most of my own work. I am grateful to the Skwxwú7mesh and shíshálh Nations whose lands I now live on and photograph.
The photographs that I create are inspired by a deep-rooted appreciation of colourful natural textures and scenes; from my backyard in Roberts Creek, to rare mountain views seen on month-long wilderness adventures. My repertoire includes a diversity of close-ups and landscapes of plants, flowers, ocean, forest, and mountain scenes from across Canada. Through unique angles, along with a focus on interesting parts of particular scenes, my hope is to inspire others, and illuminate beauty that many miss. As added value, on the photo backings, I share stories from my heart, personal reflections about my deep connection with the scenes depicted. I utilize conventional and digital technology in my work. My gear includes Nikon’s D850 digital and F90X(35mm) cameras. Several of my best selling images were taken using conventional film, a lost art that contains interest and mystery. I believe that subjects I photograph dictate themselves whether they would like to share beauty with the world in this way. Earth-centred values permeate my art where possible. I try to support local businesses, and use as much recycled and biodegradable materials as I can. I print most of my work, including canvas photographs, with the Epson P800 and p9000 wide format printers, allowing full control of my art. For HD aluminum format photos, I oversee printing of this special medium, at 2 different professional labs. I do my own framing and stretching of canvas works. My work is printed using archival materials so it will stand the test of time. (longevity 100 years+) My standard sizes of photographs range from 5X7 to 40X60. I also do wide format photos in 20X72, and offer photo cards as well.
