Rachael Hatala was born and raised in Vancouver BC and relocated with her family to Calgary AB in the fall of 2017. After taking a beginner silversmithing course in 2007 she invested in tools and materials and began a journey of experimenting and learning that would be the beginning of her jewellery brand Laughing Sparrow. In 2014 Rachael took the leap and made her business into a full time job, focusing on retail craft markets and expanding her wholesale presence.
Every piece of Laughing Sparrow jewellery is hand fabricated by Rachael in her Calgary studio. Using tools such as files, a jewellers saw, hammers, mandrels and an oxygen/acetylene torch. Each and every piece is meticulously made step by step from raw materials. While many designs are made in batches, nothing is cast which results in each earring, ring or pendant bearing unique tool marks making it truly one of a kind.
