Caroline Miller Design

BIO

Caroline Miller is a natural maker – whether it’s mixing the perfect alloy or designing small objects. Where she excels, however, is in custom jewelry design and metalsmithing. From simple forged bracelets to elaborately constructed rings. A perpetual student of life, she has apprenticed as a silversmith in Uruguay, earned a three-year diploma in Jewelry and Small Object Design from The Kootenay School of the Arts, studied coppersmithing in Santa Clara del Cobre, Mexico, and completed a Bachelor Degree in Sculpture from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Caroline has worked as a studio jeweller for twenty years; her sole proprietor business has independently supported her since 2007. She has taught numerous private workshops out of her studio in Squamish BC. and has worked as an instructor in the Jewellery Department at Vancouver Community College since 2016.

CRAFT

The basis of Caroline Miller’s art is in the craft of metalsmithing and jewellery making. Her choice of materials juxtaposes the precious with the non-precious; silver with gold, brass, copper or bronze. Gemstones with found objects, concrete or plastics like plexiglass. As a multi-faceted artist, she finds balance – and beauty – within geometry, physics, and the techniques of a practised craftswoman to build unique, one-of-a-kind handmade pieces that capture the eye as much as the imagination. Caroline believes jewellery has a great deal of expressive potential and as an artist she likes to think some people can express themselves with the work she creates. From a ring as a celebration of commitment and love, to simple silver jewellery in honour of a funeral. Caroline is inspired by adventures in nature and urban settings. History, architecture and technology all play roles in the designs she creates.
