Known for crafting music that is both fragile and orchestral, acclaimed Canadian songwriter Dana Sipos invites the listener beneath the surface through a nuanced lens that isn't afraid to be out of focus at times. Sipos’ talent for earthen imagery, rich spiralling vocals, and textured instrumentation sets the stage for a deeply moving performance. She is a consummate performer, having brought her unique brand of cosmic “moon-folk” to living rooms, concert halls and festivals stages across North America, Europe and Australia Her 2021 release, The Astral Plane was lauded as a “mesmerizing jewel of an album" (No Depression) and garnered Sipos a Solo Artist of the Year nomination at the 2022 Canadian Folk Music Awards. With a new collection of captivating songs that hold the complexity of the human experience up to the light, her new album, Golden Molten, will be released in spring 2025. She inhabited the far north before going nomad and her captivatingly nuanced songs are filled with a wild wind and a haunting surrealism. She now resides among the old growth of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. A consummate performer, Sipos has brought her unique brand of cosmic “moon-folk to living rooms, concert halls and festivals stages across North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. She has received acclaim from CBC, The Bluegrass Situation, Penguin Eggs, Folk Roots Radio (UK) and No Depression. Sipos once again teamed up with experimental producer Sandro Perri and her accomplished studio band for her 2021 release The Astral Plane. The result is an impeccably curated collection of sounds, anchored by Sipos’ haunting vocals and evocative lyrics. The Astral Plane is a deeply personal exploration, tracing the imprints of memory that form and take hold over the many lifetimes of a person, a family, the environment. Running parallel to this investigation of family histories and legacies, there are strong undercurrents of collective climate grief, the shifting faces of loss and inherited trauma echoing the ecological crises of our time. It was lauded as a ‘mesmerizing jewel of an album’ by No Depression and garnered Sipos a Solo Artist of the Year nomination (2022 CFMAs). With a new collection of captivating songs that hold the complexity of the human experience up to the light, her new album, Golden Molten, will be released in spring 2025. Dana has facilitated songwriting workshops in remote communities in northern Canada and is a participating artist with Carnegie Hall’s The Lullaby Project. She is currently working as a songwriter and artist facilitator with the Memory Café, supporting adults with dementia.
