The Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park Association (FHLPA) is a non-profit organization established in 1979, which is responsible for maintaining and restoring the heritage lodge and outbuildings in the Filberg Park. The Filberg Festival, held annually, is the Associations largest fundraiser and the Comox Valley’s premiere cultural event. All funds raised from this and other fundraising activities are used for this purpose and for the operational costs associated with managing the Filberg Park for the community to enjoy. Her acrylic paintings give a thoughtful perspective on the connection between humans and nature. You can take a peak at Tracy's work by visiting her website at www.tracykobus.com . This year you will be able to enjoy some new artisans as well as the returning favourites. With over 130 talented vendors the Filberg Festival is the perfect place to pick up a wedding or anniversary gift and start a fantastic collection! Raffle tickets are available for purchase during the Festival. A $10.00 ticket or 3 for $20.00 gives you the opportunity to win one of seven amazing prizes: two return tickets anywhere WestJet flies, two return flights on Harbour Air from Comox to Vancouver and two night's accommodation at the Hotel Le Soleil in Vancouver, an original Brett Varney painting, two hand crafted willow Diamond Back garden chairs by Willow Way, a carved original piece by Westcoast Chainsaw Artists, a rattan side table and lamp from Rattan Plus Home & Patio and coffee for a year from Royston Roasting. Also don't forget that parking is limited at the Filberg Heritage Lodge & Park and in the surrounding residential area during the Festival so we encourage you to either walk, cycle or use the public transit system if you live locally. If you are driving to the Festival the best thing to do is to take advantage of Ambassador Shuttle Service's Park & Ride at 1475 Noel Avenue. For a donation (suggest $2.00 per person) Ambassador's friendly drivers will drop you off in lovely air conditioned vans near the Festival entrance and take you back to your vehicle when you are done having fun at the end of the day. This year's volunteer group that will be manning the Park & Ride is Vancouver Island Compassion Dogs. Vancouver Island Compassion Dogs is a non-profit organization that matches rescue dogs with veterans and others that are struggling with invisible injuries.http://vicompassiondogs.ca/. This service runs during Festival hours from 9am to 6pm Friday through Sunday and from 9am to 5pm on Monday. Advance tickets are available for $13 until July 31st at all Vancouver Island Thrifty Foods locations including Salt Spring Island, the Vancouver Island Visitor Centre, I-HOS Gallery and Arizona Gifts in the Comox Centre Mall. Tickets are $15 at the Gate during the Festival. A four day pass is available for $40. We look forward to seeing you there! The critters will move out and the vendors will move in to take over the Filberg Park for four fabulous days of arts & crafts, music, food and fun! We are really excited about the entertainment line-up that will be showcasing the new "Comox Rotary Stage" formally known as the Main Stage. The programming this year will be a mix of genres to appeal to a much wider audience including children's performers on the Garden Stage. Headliners include: Tiller's Folly, Royal Wood, Jesse Peters, and Ken Lavigne. FILBERG FESTIVAL UPDATE PRESENTED BY: LEWIS & SEARS MARKETING & EVENT MANAGEMENTWe are really excited about how the 32nd annual Filberg Festival is shaping up! The team has been hard at work over the winter putting together another stellar festival. Artisan applications were accepted through until the 7th of February and the Jury has reviewed all the submissions and selected those who represent the best in their categories. Not an easy task! We get over 200 applications in all mediums and can only handle 130 due to space in the Park. We are extremely lucky to have such amazing artists and craftsman who want to take part in our Festival. Now the process begins to send out confirmations on who has been accepted. This year we are thrilled to feature local artist Tracy Kobus as our guest artist. Tracy lives in the Comox Valley and her acrylic paintings give a thoughtful perspective on the connection between humans' and nature. Her work, now in collections world-wide, is available at the Comox Valley Art Gallery Gift Shop and various events throughout the year. And let's not forget the other components that make up the Filberg Festival...we have almost finalized the entertainment for the Main Stage and Garden Stage for the August 1-4 dates. Contracts are being processed and once all has been confirmed we will release the line up. We can tell you however, that it is an eclectic mix of genres that should appeal to everyone! It might seem as if it was some time ago since this year's Festival to many of you, but we have only just finished working on the post event details for the 2013 Festival. With that behind us we now start to work on 2014. Over the coming months work begins on the artist and food application process, booking entertainment, advertising and marketing, etc. ...all the details that make for a successful event! 32 years is an extraordinary amount of time for a Festival to sustain itself and we are very much aware of the reasons why the Filberg Festival is as successful as it is. We continually ask for feedback from the artists, vendors and patrons each year and if we see a common theme that needs improvement we work on making it happen the next year. For example last year there was a significant change to the location and format of the Kid's Area thus the creation of the "Enchanted Forest". We are extremely excited about the Main Stage renovation which will enhance the entertainment portion of the Filberg Festival for many years to come but also the many other events that take place in the Park. The raffle proceeds from this year's Filberg Festival will assist with the cost to build the permanent structure as well as support received from the Comox Valley Community Foundation, Comox Rotary and 19 Wing Comox.
