BIO

I am a creative felt designer who has been teaching and felting full time for 13 years. Trained as a graphic designer at the Ontario College of Art my work shows my love of line and clean simple design. I have lived in the Cowichan Valley for 20 years. I have been selling my line of fibre art mostly at shows on the Island and the Vancouver area; Out of Hand in Victoria every year, Filberg the last five years, Moss Street Paint In, local fibre festivals all over Vancouver Island, Fibrations in Victoria, and the Royal BC Museum has carried my wall-hangings. I've had pieces in the Sooke Fine Arts Show, The Victoria Arts Council's Woman's Day shows and the Sidney Fine Arts Show. Shows in my home studio, on-line sales and teaching, which I love, round out my creative work.

CRAFT

I begin my process by hand dyeing wool roving then sculpting and manipulating it using felting techniques. I combine needle felting techniques with the ancient methods of wet felting to create my line of art influenced by my graphic design background. My favourite things to felt are the large needle felted wallhangings. Each piece is one of a kind. They are like paintings. I start by hand-dyeing roving in the colours I want to create a specific image. I lay down tuffs of wool, like brush strokes of paint, then felt it all together. Many layers of wool and many hours go into each piece but it's my most enjoyable process. I also felt sculptural pieces, and have a line of Learn-to-Felt kits designed for beginners. This way once people see the process of my felting they can go home and try felting themselves.
